Having previously consisted of a number of separate organisations, the new, united directorate faced the challenge of restructuring their communication.To reach their different target groups with the relevant information and ensure an effective organisation of content production and distribution, they needed help to build a new digital content platform.How might we transform a whole universe of different and disconnected websites into a unified and accessible experience for users?

Turning 30-ish disconnected websites into consistent communication

Working cross-disciplinary has been the key to success in this project. By combining the expertise of developers, designers and the domain and content knowledge of the client themselves, we could create a meaningful and effective solution.  

Through thorough mapping and analysis of the existing websites, content systems and target audiences, we developed a roadmap for a new digital universe for the directorate. In collaboration with the client, we identified which websites are no longer relevant, which ones should stay and how they need to be adapted to meet the user needs and organisational needs in the best way.

The result is a new, unified content platform – a CMS build in Sanity that feeds content into a brand-new main website

, the content can be easily reused and published on different pages and websites. The main website works as a portal for information directed at the educational sector, while additional websites meet more tailored needs for other, more specific groups of users:

A unified content platform and user centric websites 

By specifying content models and systems, we have built a structured, streamlined and efficient content platform that facilitates for both end-users and editors. Redundant types of content have been removed and remaining content has been thoroughly structured to facilitate the work of the editors, and for users to find correct and reliable information. 

The reduced number of websites, a new main portal, as well as a new CMS, brings a series of advantages both to end users, editors, developers and the organisation at large:

 The new website is easy to use and with easily accessible information. The unified profile gives the directorate a strengthened brand and it’s clearer who is the sender of the information.

As the new website gathers overarching information about services for the educational sector, several of the previously existing websites could be discontinued. This saves resources, time and money that can be invested in the main website and also in improving the more specialised sites. 

. The different websites, including the new overarching site, useSanity as a common content platform. Using one single CMS gives all editors a shared experience and makes it easier to collaborate, learn and update content.

Using a headless CMS, means that the content is separated from the visual presentation in the front end. This makes it possible to easily reuse the same content on different websites and pages, without duplicating or double publishing it. 

 The smart architecture of the main website in combination with the headless CMS makes it easy to scale or build additional websites if, or when, needed.

 Having fast-loading and search engine optimised pages helps users find the relevant pages when searching on Google or other search engines.
