Future Home delivers the latest generation smart home technology for comprehensive management of the home; heating, lighting, security and appliance integration and automation. The company is a highly successful Stavanger-based start-up, renowned for running Norway’s most successful crowdfunding campaign to date collecting over 1MNOK.
Market need for intuitive smart home technology
Smart home technology has been on the market for several years, but current solutions are expensive, difficult to install and fragmented due to the lack of a standardised WIFI/Bluetooth protocol for components to communicate through. This has caused slow consumer uptake and a fragmented market overall.
Holistic design approach to create seamless user experience
EGGS Design has been the primary supplier of design services to Future Home since the smart home technology company launched publicly in 2014. EGGS has contributed with the design of the visual identity, digital UX design and app design, as well as the service design of the customer journey and related strategy. We have also contributed with product design of their hardware Smart Hub.
User-friendly, flexible and open
Future Home consists of a smartphone app and their Smarthub, enabling the home owner to control lighting, climate control, shading, media and music, security systems and electrical appliances in their home. The system can either be installed by the home-owner or by a professional electrician. It is scalable, enabling the user to start with selected appliances and incorporating more over time. Future Home supports multiple communications standards, such as Z-wave and EnOcean which in turn enable hundreds of ‘smart’ products from third party manufacturers.
In all our design work the users needs and intuitive operations have been the primary focus to ensure an attractive and successful service for customers and partners. In addition to the end-user interface, we are helping with partner-facing solutions and systems, making it easy to incorporate commercial third parties and franchises in the future.
A bright and funded future
Within two years the start-up has increased form 4 entrepreneurs, led by Erik Stokkeland, to 12 dedicated employees with offices in Stavanger and Oslo. In 2015 Future Home entered agreements for funding with IKM invest, Erik Ålgård and Christian Rokseth, with Martin Svangtun from IKM joining the board of directors.
