‘Top of the class’ cloud-based chart software

The new K-sim ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) provides maritime students access to a complete training package in the cloud. We focused on defining and supporting the development of this new industry-leading product with a new look and feel and a brand-new user experience. The solution accommodates all necessary functionality for students operating electronic charts, route planning, and navigation and has recently become the first cloud-based training solution to gain the new DNV class D certification.

The jury’s verdict

Kongsberg Digital won the award with the following motivation from the DOGA Award’s jury:

”Kongsberg Digital and EGGS Design have developed a cloud-based platform for maritime navigation training that is based on years of experience and competence, and which, in addition, takes simulation training to a new level. K-Sim Connect is already being used in training situations by instructors and students in several countries.

Advanced navigation simulation requires significant amounts of data. For this reason, it is noteworthy that K-Sim Connect enables learning how to steer a giant ship from a small, portable unit from any place in the world.

K-Sim Connect is awarded the DOGA Award for design and architecture for applying a series of design disciplines to develop a platform for advanced simulator training made available worldwide. This represents visual storytelling at its best and serves as a great source of inspiration for everyone that works cross-disciplinarily with user experience, system, and service design.»
